New exhibition - AK Remix Maja Siska 5th-20th of June

The exhibition AK remix opens next Saturday at 4 pm at the Gallery of the Icelandic Printmakers Association, Tryggvagata 17. Maja Siska is showing work on 100 years old corrugated metal plates. These plates once clad the outside of a country church, they have previously been shown at the Akureyri Art Museum as part of the exhibition Whimsical Impetus. Trained as an architect, Maja is here working with discarded building material: the corrugated metal plates found in a field. The old protective skin of the Villingaholt church is regenerated in the form of art, evoking the architectural history of Icelandic country churches. The installation and re- installation of the plates is nevertheless site specific every time. The artist will have a talk on Sunday 13th of June at 3 pm. The exhibition runs until 20th of June. Free entrance.
